John—"I got 98% of what I wanted"—Boehner, in his victory speech last summer—over a 1.2 trillion dollar budget reduction deal—was more than pleased with himself even as he got America's credit downgraded, by holding the American economy hostage for the entire summer—for what?—tax cuts for millionaires like himself.
Today three months later—he has once again spun like a top to his favorite talking point about—"Obama's failure of leadership"—over the sequestration of the 1.2 trillion in defense cuts—that he had previously bragged about winning along with a Republican majority. Boehner's 180 degree spin came as Moody's Investor Services warned that it would downgrade the nation's credit rating if Congress doesn't make progress in bringing down the national debt, currently at $16.1 trillion.
He said: "On both of these, where's the president? Where's the leadership?" he asked. "Absent without leave."
Boehner said. "The president didn't want his reelection inconvenienced by another fight over a $1.2 trillion increase in the debt ceiling. That's why we have it." He then cited Bob Woodward's new book as proof—that Obama is the one to blame for the sequester, or the automatic, across-the-board cuts that are set to kick in at the end of the year.
The sequester according to Republican "LEADERS" was never intended to take effect; nobody likes it and Republicans in particular are upset that it applies to defense spending. But leaders in both parties signed off on it last year as a motivator to come up with a better way to cut trillions in spending by the end of this year.
So Mister Speaker which is it—Obama is a failed leader OR Obama made me you do it?
How did he coerce you? You say it was because he said he didn't want another budget ceiling fight before the election? Really? You had stonewalled him at every turn to the point of having the credit rating of your country downgraded in defense of millionaires—and now all of a sudden he forced you to sign something you bragged about as a victory—because it would be "an inconvenience" to Obama? Now that's leadership! BUT—I thought you said—he's a failure as a leader?
John—I am stunned by your brilliance—as in I know "you're shining me on"— but I am definitely NOT baffled by your bullshit.
Johnnie boy—IF THERE IS A FAILURE IN LEADERSHIP—IT"S YOURS.
You have been in the Congress twenty two years and as a LEADER of the Republican House and as such allowed this Nation's debt to explode exponentially under the two terms of President GW Bush, becoming a cheerleader chanting the Republican mantra "Reagan proved deficits don't matter" and in accordance with that failed idea blew through a surplus—provided government largesse to corporations, started two unfunded wars and at the same time passed the largest tax cuts in the history of this country—ignoring the fact that at no other time in American history has the Nation acted with such blatant disregard for prudent fiscal management—and now you have become an irrational deficit hawk—a remarkable transformation in the space of four years. You even have managed to ignore the former authors of the tax cuts—respected Republicans—who have said they were never intended to become permanent.
Finally, YOUR failure to put YOUR country above party is in fact the most flagrant and egregious failure of any elected official I have witnessed in my 67 years—including Nixon—and tantamount to dereliction of YOUR fiduciary responsibilities that threatens to bring this nation even more damage than you and your failed policies of, war mongering, deregulation of the banking industry, massive spending combined with tax cuts for the wealthiest among us have already wrought. You are a miserable failure as a so called "leader" and unfit to call yourself a representative of the people—when you only represent interests of those who bribe you with campaign "contributions".
Impeachment would be too good for you.
